When I said that everything I see on my laptop is now my own, that wasn’t quite true. I didn’t think of the Claude Code CLI. And to be honest, that UI was not to my complete satisfaction. Why settle for something less than perfect when perfection is only a couple of hours away?
I am turning out to be more and more critical of User Interfaces. This anonymous “User” is usually the typical påerson using the software. But even for her the software is not a perfect fit. I am now advocating for xI, where “x” is any specific person, and the Interface is tailored to that person. To utter perfection.
This is why I discourage everyone from using the software I publish. It’s not that I don’t want you to use it, it’s that I think you can do better. For you. I would never arrogantly assume I could create any software that would be perfect for your needs, your workflow or your aesthetic preferences. Only you can do that. And with Claude Code you can… for almost any software.
And while Claude Code itself is OK, it’s very far away from what I want. It talks too much and gives way too much unnecessary info. And it doesn’t necessarily display the info I want. And so I had to create deck, my own Claude Code interface:

It does exactly what I want with just my prompts and the Claude Code answers in the left pane (and answers in HyperLists of course) and the actions (tool calls) on the right. A standard Fe2O3 info bar at the top and the status bar at the bottom. Compact and to my liking.
Nothing magical about any of this. But it could serve as inspiration for you to tailor interfaces to your liking. Moving from UI to xI yourself.
So, not really “All hands on deck”, then. Just “Your hands on your deck”.
